Mobile Cinema Booking Concept

Client
Academic project

Year
2023

An individual UX project conducted as part of the Interaction Design course at the University of Skövde. The goal was to design a cinema app that enhances user experience, encourages movie attendance, and simplifies ticket booking in a more engaging way.

Challenge

How can a cinema app be designed to reduce cognitive load during ticket purchase while fostering social engagement around the film experience?

Prototype

A fully interactive Figma prototype was developed to visualize the complete user journey — from film discovery to ticket confirmation.
The design applied heuristics such as Consistency & Standards and Match Between System and the Real World, ensuring an experience that feels both familiar and responsive.

My Role

Sole designer responsible for the entire UX process — from research and analysis to concept development, wireframing, and prototyping. The work followed a user-centered design methodology with focus on usability and flow efficiency.

Research & Insights

  • Conducted five structured interviews to understand user behaviors, habits, and pain points related to film discovery and ticket booking.

  • Created two personas and a scenario to visualize the user journey and guide design priorities.

  • Key insights: users wanted quick access to film information such as ratings and trailers, combined with a simple, linear booking process.

Ideation & Concepts

Initial concept directions focused on two themes:

  1. Interaction — exploring clean flows and interface elements.

  2. Community — exploring social features such as reviews, sharing, and collaborative discussion.
Through sketching, storyboarding, and conceptual modeling, ideas were refined toward a user-centric solution.

Outcome

The resulting prototype delivers a streamlined booking experience with improved information hierarchy, reduced friction, and a clear visual structure. Minimalist layouts and Gestalt-based grouping support quick scanning and confident decision-making.

Key Learnings

Strengthened ability to translate qualitative research into actionable UX decisions.

  • Enhanced prototyping and wireframing skills in Figma.

  • Gained deeper understanding of how interaction design impacts user flow, confidence, and satisfaction.
